Calibration and Validation of the FAO AquaCrop Water Productivity Model for Perennial Ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.)

Crop models that can accurately estimate yield and final biomass have been used for major herbaceous crops to a lesser extent in forage systems. The AquaCrop version 7.0 contains new modules introduced simulate the growth production of perennial crops. Simulated yields as function water consumption provide valuable information allows farmers make decisions adapting both climate variability change. study aimed calibrate validate model ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) high tropics Colombia (South America). experiments were conducted during two consecutive seasons, which meadows subjected irrigation regimes: full no irrigation. was evaluated using precision, accuracy, simulation error indices. overall performance simulating canopy cover, soil content showed good match between measured simulated data. calibration results indicated an acceptable measurement cover (CC) (R2 = 0.95, d-index 0.41, RMSE 9.4%, NRMSE 12.2%, FE −21.72). satisfactorily cumulative dry mass 0.98, 2. 63 t ha−1, 11.8%, 0.94). Though values obtained end-of-season cuts underestimated by model, with reasonable accuracy 0.82, 0.84, 6.10 mm, 4.80%, 0.32).
